Hotel rooms in NYC come in a variety of configurations. Many standard rooms have a single queen or king bed and are designed for up to two guests, although some hotels may allow an infant under two to stay in the room as well. Some standard rooms also include a sofa bed and can accommodate up to three guests.
Many NYC hotels also offer rooms with two double beds or two queen beds, which can accommodate up to four guests, including children. Queen beds are larger than double beds, giving guests more sleeping space and comfort.
Larger groups may also have the option of suites or other special room configurations. However, these can cost significantly more, and booking two standard rooms can sometimes be less expensive than booking one larger room or suite. Our calculator uses a simplified four-guest-per-room planning assumption to provide a realistic estimate. It automatically calculates the minimum number of rooms needed for your party, while allowing you to choose additional rooms if you prefer more space or privacy. Actual room configurations, occupancy limits and availability vary by hotel.
Rooms with 3 or 4 guests are estimated at 25% above the standard room rate because they typically require larger room configurations, such as rooms with two double beds or two queen beds, which can accommodate more guests. Rooms with 1–2 guests use the standard rate. Your total reflects the room mix needed for your party and the number of rooms you select.
It means your group cannot be accommodated in the minimum number of standard rooms using our room assumptions — for example, there may not be enough adults to have at least one adult in every room. In this situation, a real hotel may be able to accommodate your group using connecting rooms, family rooms, suites or another room arrangement. These options vary by hotel and may cost more.
